ABOUT MEREDITH MÖRLING

It's not easy to give myself a cultural label.

I grew up in an American family in Scotland and Germany throughout my childhood, then moved to the US in 2008 to study. Since then I have worked for several years with a Christian non-profit (Operation Mobilisation) in Kosovo, before returning to the US to complete my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In 2020, I moved to Sweden to be with my favourite person. My Swedish husband and I currently live in Helsingborg, Sweden.

I enjoy filling my time with writing poetry, making art, hanging out with friends, getting involved in Christian community, and spending time in nature.

I appreciate the terms Third Culture Kid and Global Nomad as they attempt to capture what it's like to not fit into one cultural box. I've enjoyed the presence of many countries and cultures in my life. I appreciate the excitement of moving to a new country, adapting to a new world, and learning a new language. I also understand the daily struggle, disorientation, and stress of making such huge cultural transitions. I want to walk with others in this journey - as I continue to journey myself - and pass on the tools that I have found most helpful.

MY PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

In 2019, I completed my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wheaton College, Illinois (USA), and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. My studies covered cognitive-behavioural (CBT), psychodynamic, family systems, and other therapeutic theories. As I do therapy, I draw from a variety of techniques, such as ACT, DBT, and emotionally-focused therapy, and apply what I think will be most helpful for you.

During and after my studies, I worked in a variety of clinical settings including private counselling, hospital-based therapy, and a non-profit for youth-at-risk. Prior to becoming a therapist, I've also worked in Kosovo with women and children who experienced domestic violence or trafficking.
